Read if You Feel Powerless

Read if you feel powerless

It’s so easy to feel swamped these days.

The news cycles don’t stop. The chaos feels constant. And that persistent, gnawing sense of powerlessness? Phew, it feels unbearable.

When we feel powerless, it doesn’t just sit there—it grows. It turns into helplessness, and from there, we can find ourselves STUCK

But here’s something to digest: powerlessness is an illusion. It's something we can change.

You always have power. Always.

It’s this beautiful thing called your innate power

Founder of Right Use of Power, Cedar Barstow, calls this your birthright. It’s your ability to have an effect or to have influence. Your ability to make choices.

As n’betweeners, we’ve been taught to believe our power is small or limited. Buuuut that’s a lie. Our power is in how we think, how we act, and how we connect—with others and with ourselves.

It’s in the small choices we make every day. Choices that might feel insignificant in the moment but have the potential to create ripples we can’t yet see.

So, I invite you to ask yourself: How will I choose to be with this situation? Will I feel helpless, or will I take control?

You may not like what’s happening in your life right now. You may not be able to change the circumstances. But you always have a choice in how you respond, how you move through it, and how you carry yourself.

Think of Nelson Mandela. He spent 27 years in prison. Imagine that—nearly three decades of confinement. Yet Mandela refused to let his circumstances define him. He chose to focus on the future, using his time to cultivate the vision and resilience he would need as a leader.

And here’s the remarkable part: within just four years of his release, Mandela became South Africa’s first Black president. Four years

From prisoner to president, he demonstrated the incredible power of perspective, choice, and determination.

Mandela’s story is a reminder: even in the hardest circumstances, we always have a choice in how we perceive and move through them.

I know that strength in you. You might not always feel it—none of us do. But every time you take a deep breath and choose to keep going, you’re proving to yourself just how powerful you are.

Right now, let’s remind ourselves of that power. Let’s take those small steps, those brave choices, because they matter. You matter.

Ready to take the next step, n’betweener?
