How 13 minutes can feel like HOME
Thirteen minutes where nobody had to shrink to fit.
“I felt like I was home.” She says it within the first two minutes of our session. We had just logged on. Early morning. Soft light. She’s of course telling me about the halftime show—and as she speaks, her whole face shifts.
Her eyes brighten. Her shoulders drop. A smile I haven’t seen in months. She laughs: “It was like one big belonging inclusion party.” That’s what we need right now more than ever—especially among n’betweeners. That’s why I created RISE — the n’betweener® homecoming (more on that in a minute).
Let’s talk about how 13 of those minutes can land like HOME.
Why did 13 minutes take over the internet?
Why did everyone share the same moment like it was theirs? Neuroscience is clear: belonging isn’t a thought. It’s a body event. Your nervous system is always scanning for one thing: Am I safe here?
When you see yourself reflected — your culture visible, your language honored, your complexity normalized — the threat alarm quiets. The body softens. Oxytocin rises. Mirror neurons fire. You move from bracing to breathing.
It doesn’t take hours. It takes seconds.
The body gets its answer: YES!
That’s what hit millions of people at once. It wasn’t just a show. It was recognition. A collective nervous system exhales in a world that feels tense and divided.
For us n’betweeners — people who live between cultures, identities, expectations — that recognition lands even deeper. Because so much of our life has been spent adjusting, moderating, translating that doesn’t fit neatly in one room.
So when something says, “You don’t have to shrink here,” the body knows.
HOME.
Let’s turn 13 minutes of belonging into a FULL day.
